Sewing Tips for Ramie
Pre-wash fabric and cut correctly: Pre-wash your ramie fabric before processing to avoid slight shrinkage. Use a rotary cutter and pattern weights when cutting, as the fabric's crisp structure can shift easily during cutting.
Choose generous seam allowances: Ramie frays more than cotton. Plan a seam allowance of at least 1.5 cm and finish all edges with an overlock stitch or French seam. This ensures durable, clean seams.
Stay-stitch curves immediately: Since ramie has very low elasticity, you should stay-stitch curved areas immediately after cutting with a straight stitch. This prevents distortion or stretching of edges during further processing.
