Frequently Asked Questions about Upholstery Fabrics
What does the Martindale value mean?
The Martindale value indicates the abrasion resistance of a fabric. For private households at least 15,000 cycles are recommended, for heavily used furniture or public areas at least 20,000-50,000 cycles.
Which upholstery fabric is easiest to care for?
Microfiber fabrics like Alcantara are particularly easy to care for, allergy-friendly and stain-resistant. Polyester blend fabrics are also robust and easy to clean.
Can I work with any upholstery fabric myself?
Most upholstery fabrics can be worked with a normal household sewing machine. However, for very thick fabrics a stronger sewing machine or upholstery machine is recommended.
