Fleece: Properties & Sewing Tips | Fabric Guide
Fleece is a soft, warm synthetic fabric made primarily from polyester. The fabric is characterized by its fluffy surface and excellent thermal properties. Fleece is lightweight, breathable, quick-drying and easy to care for. Modern fleece fabrics are increasingly made from recycled fibers (rPET) and are versatile – from outdoor clothing to cozy blankets.

Sewing Tips for Fleece
Use jersey needles and polyester thread: Use a jersey needle or stretch needle in size 80/12 or 90/14 to prevent skipped stitches. Choose polyester thread that stretches with the fabric without breaking. Increase stitch length to 3.0–4.0mm and use zigzag stitch for stretchy seams.
Use a walking foot: A walking foot is very helpful with thick, stretchy fleece layers. It ensures that both fabric layers are fed evenly through the machine. Also use fabric clips (Wonder Clips) instead of pins, as these leave no holes and don't get lost in the pile.
Pay attention to the nap direction: Fleece has a nap direction. Run your hand over the fabric – it feels smooth in one direction and rougher in the other. Cut all pattern pieces in the same direction so your finished project has a uniform appearance. Edges don't need finishing as fleece doesn't fray.
