Chenille: Properties & Sewing Tips | Fabric Guide
Chenille is a particularly soft, velvet-like fabric that gets its name from the French word for caterpillar - because the fluffy yarn resembles its fur. The fabric has a characteristic high pile with a gentle sheen and is extremely tear-resistant and durable. Chenille is mainly used for upholstered furniture, blankets and cozy home textiles.

Sewing Tips for Chenille
Choose the right needle: Use normal universal needles for thinner chenille fabrics. For thick, heavy upholstery fabrics, jeans needles may be a better choice as they are stronger and more resistant.
Don't flatten the pile: When sewing, make sure the fine pile hairs at the seam are not flattened too much. Choose a not too short stitch length and keep the fabric taut when sewing.
Use straight stitch: For high-pile fabrics like chenille, it's better to choose a straight stitch with medium stitch length. This damages the pile less and keeps the seam stable.
